Pickleball Court Dimensions and Setup Guide: Everything You Need to Know in 2025

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports globally. Whether you're a new player, a community organizer, or someone planning to build a court, understanding the correct pickleball court dimensions and setup is essential.

Official Pickleball Court Dimensions

An official pickleball court measures 20 feet wide by 44 feet long, and this size applies to both singles and doubles matches. Each side features a 7-foot non-volley zone (also known as the Kitchen), and a centerline divides the service areas.

  • Court Length: 44 feet (13.41 meters)
  • Court Width: 20 feet (6.1 meters)
  • Non-Volley Zone: 7 feet (2.13 meters) from the net on each side
  • Net Height at Center: 34 inches

USA Pickleball recommends a total clear area of 30 feet by 60 feet to allow players to move freely and safely outside the court lines.

How to Set Up a Pickleball Court

  1. Choose a Surface: Use a hard, level surface such as asphalt, concrete, or modular sport tiles.
  2. Mark the Court Lines: Use tape or paint to mark the 20 x 44-foot boundary.
  3. Mark the Kitchen: Measure 7 feet from the net on both sides and mark the non-volley zone.
  4. Draw the Centerline: Divide each service box from the baseline to the kitchen line.
  5. Ensure Safety: Provide lighting and, for indoor courts, ensure ceiling height of at least 18–20 feet.
  6. Allow Out-of-Bounds Space: Maintain at least 5 feet of clearance on each side, ideally 10 feet.

Pickleball Court Size Variations

  • Mini Pickleball Court: 10 feet wide by 22 feet long – used for recreational or limited spaces.
  • Skinny Singles Court: 10 feet wide by 44 feet long – half the width of a standard court, great for drills.
  • Singles Court: Uses the same dimensions as doubles – 20 feet by 44 feet.
